This panel proposes to explore the benefits -- expected and unexpected -- to themselves, their students and local news organizations when full-time faculty members choose to either continue working part time in a local newsroom, take a sabbatical to work in a newsroom full time or get a grant to work in a newsroom during the summer. What are the results when faculty are participant-observers in the digital revolution that is transforming modern newsrooms?
